CORDEL

The World Nuclear Association’s mission is to promote a wider understanding of nuclear energy among key international influencers by producing authoritative information, developing common industry positions, and contributing to the energy debate.
The Association’s Cooperation in Reactor Design Evaluation and Licensing (CORDEL) working group was established in 2007 as the counterpart to the Multilateral Design Evaluation Programme of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA). CORDEL focuses on promoting the international standardization of nuclear reactor designs and the harmonization of regulatory requirements as well as industrial codes and standards in order to decrease the efforts and modifications needed for a reactor design to be deployed in several countries. The working group has six task forces engaged in discussions with regional and international organizations representing industry stakeholders, regulators, governments and standards developing organisations.
The six CORDEL task forces are:
  • Design Change Management (DCMTF)
  • Digital Instrumentation and Control (DICTF)
  • Licensing and Permitting (LPTF)
  • Mechanical Codes and Standards (MCSTF)
  • Nuclear Safety Standards (NSSTF)
  • Small Modular Reactors (SMRTF)
Information on CORDEL, including its reports and Strategic Plan, are available on the World Nuclear Association website.
